Been jamming out today while running errands. Currently listening to BoySetsFire, but listened to most of the new Social Distortion album “Born to Kill”. Totally kicking album by the way. Got similar flavor to a few of the past albums and some new vibes as well.
Today’s music has me thinking about how wild this ride has been so far. We were driving down old cedar lake, and I was jamming to one of the new Social D tracks, and thinking about how I’ve literally been listening to them since I was 16 years old. I’m 40 now, do the math. They’ve been around a lot longer than that.. as have a lot of the other bands I listen to.

A lot has changed, has happened since I was 16. Both in my life, and the world. I’ve had children, gotten married, gotten divorced, been at the bottom of a bottle and been sober. Relationships came and went, failed, thrived and were divided by distance. We’ve been at war in the middle east, watched liberal policy advance, only for the far right to take over. Now we’re back to war crimes and extrajudicial murder, again (as if it ever stopped), except for this time it’s live streamed.
As I scroll through some of my old political rock of the the early 2000’s and punk from before, it’s really crazy to think about how some of this shit has become relevant, multiple times in the last few decades. The same goes for some of the newer bands out now days, I could’ve popped their albums in my discman and jammed out on my way to work 24 years ago.. walking down Grand Ave.
Jamming to Victory Lap by Propagandhi – you should listen to it.

So my 40th revolution around the sun, and it’s very odd to think that not much has changed. All of us in this world just keep going in circles, repeating history over and over again. War, death, disease, progress laid to waste. For me? Beyond having more bills and worse health.. I’m still me.
